MotionPlus not a Nintendo exclusive: Other people interested
InvenSense, the people responsible for creating the MotionPlus sensor that will soon make the Wii a complete product, have stated that as delighted as they are with the new relationship, it is not an exclusive deal.
"Of course we're incredibly pleased - delighted would probably be a better adjective - that Nintendo approached us... but it's not an exclusive relationship," stated InvenSense's Joe Virginia. "I can't get into details about other folks that are interested in this technology, but as you might imagine of course there is more interest out there."
Virginia was also quick to point out what his company's new add-on will do for Wii development: "With six degrees of freedom you can basically make any movement at all, and be able to track that in combination with the sensor bar and other sensors included in the Wii remote. Add the gyroscope capability and you have the ability to work in all three dimensions of space.

I don't think this news hurts Nintendo at all, because even though Microsoft has stated they want to test the waters for casual gaming, they are not going to focus as much as what Nintendo might. It will be interesting to see who starts using this tech though, and maybe we'll see the computer devices using it or some cheap Walmart knock off toys doing it as well.

Nintendo can be stingy on improvements for the Wii console, so I figure MotionPlus, even though other people will be able to use the technology should still be welcomed with open arms.

bad move by nintendo. if MS were to also use this tech, it would basically put it on par with the wiimote; one of the most innovative things on the wii.

Here's a question that was asked when the Wii launched...Do we really want 1 to 1 controls on games like Zelda and Red Steel? If we have that kind of control aren't we just gonna get warn out?

If Sony or Microsoft don't get this, the Wii might be home free if it gets some really good games.

Why would we get warn out? It's not like you have to swing your arms around like a mad-man. Smaller movements of the wrist will most likely work with MotionPlus, just as good as bigger movements would. It's just like when the Wii launched, games like Wii Sports were demonstrated with massive movements, but the same actions could be performed with smaller wrist movement. It's just a matter of choice.
So my answer is yes, I really want 1:1 motion controls.

Your always going to get the people though arent you that on games like Zelda are going to swing their arms around just like nearly every Wii owner would have done when they opened their Wii's on launch dates and started to play Wii Sports for the first time, remember Snakey we both did exaclty that when I got mine on launch day lmao, and alot of people will carry on like that through and through.
edit: And also with 1:1 motion controls you'll lose the preset sword motions in Red Steel 2 that saved everyone's asses by practically blocking for you in the first game. This would come down to your own reactions and smarts with 1:1 controls which would mean either have to slow the games down considerably or leave a fair few gamers behind dying over and over again.
It's a great idea but alot could go wrong if it isn't used well and only at the right times.

you just can't beat a bit of Princess Zelda ;]

pssh. the sixaxis motion control is @$$. Only a handful of games have used it successfully (ironically by using it in small ways and not making it necessary)

What sits in a tree, weighs six ounces and is very dangerous? A Sparrow with a Machine Gun!

careful careful, Nintendo's Wii-mote can't be all that great if they're gonna sell an add-on to give it better control.

That sounds pretty cool, even if MS do decide to use this I think it would hardly be used or maybe they would screw it up somehow like Drew said.

While I would agree... no. Nothing's ever perfect and not in need of improvement. I'm pretty sure everyone here can agree that the Wiimote > SIXAXIS.

[Insert bad comparison here]
Wii Remote > Six Axis.

Maybe Sony will be thinking about trying this out if it would be possible just like MS, whats the use of Six Axis if you could have it better?
Wii Remote > Six Axis

That's just like a developer saying, "the game we have is great, but we're not going to bother improving it, because, that would make too much sense". Just because Nintendo are improving on the Wii Remote, it doesn't mean it isn't already great...
Wii Remote > Six Axis.
I'm not sure what you mean. How do you expect a developer to improve on an already released game, unless you get a patch? If you want to keep the two comparisons, then I guess Nintendo should release the MotionPlus technology for free.

Shh! That was a bad comparison on my part.
I'll think of another when I have more brain power...
Basically, like Ricky said, "Nothing's ever perfect and not in need of improvement."
