it's just odd that it suddenly decided to do this now. i don't think i changed my window size recently. shouldn't have started doing that NOW. oh well. if it'll be fixed soon then no biggie
Yeah, some aspects are nice, but others are a little messy.
Sorry if this is a lot of criticism, but graphic design is my profession, so I can't help but notice this stuff. I like it where it's going, but it does need some tweaks.
- The thread titles and "Quick Reply", "Possibly Related Threads..." are all a little oversized relative to the other text.
- The WiiLoaded logo's Wiimote ringlet in the header bar rides right up against the top of the browser window.
- As others have mentioned, some text and buttons fall out of their spaces, suchas the "contact us" in the menu at the bottom of the screen.
- a lot of text rides a little too close to the edges of the boxes and near ads. (http://www.wiiloaded.com/wiinews-8527) Here the ad is too close to pics and post to the point where it could almost be seen as part of the post. Also the digg it button hugs the left side a little too snuggly.
- "New Thread" buttons are in line with edge of the thread listing box, but b/c that box has large curved edges it looks like it hangs over. Plus, the thread listing box has a drop shadow and the button does not, which adds to their alignment looking off. You could bring the button in past the large corner curve or get rid of drop shadows or perhaps add one to the button. (http://www.wiiloaded.com/Television-and-Movies-f-68-wii)
- ...but with these new buttons and icons you've created that does not have the drop shadow, you'd be better off getting rid of many/all the drop shadows and shading in the entire design. It creates a weird inconsistency having buttons and certain items being flat, and all the structural aspects giving the illusion of dimentionality. I like the new flat buttons, try doing everything in the same style, getting rid of as much of all the shading and see how it looks. Use different flat shades of white/grey to denote seperations. If shading is still needed, then bring it back where it is necessary.
- The one thing I just don't really like is how the main page looks now.
Light colored text on a darker background is always going to be hard to read online and in print. For something that is supposed to give information, you don't want to do that. Then having the white lines come into the grey boxes where there is white text confuses things because they blend together. If the text was a different color or shade then it would be much more readable and would stand out from the box and those lines, but with them being the same color, they blend. The whole thing just looks very barring. It doesn't make me want to read any of what is there. Plus, the design of everything else in the site is different from it, so it just doesn't fit.
In general, I think it's heading in a cool direction. The flat buttons are pretty stylish, and make things a little more simple and slick. But the design needs to be more consistent and homogenous. There are competing aspects that distract from what the message board's main purpose is - communication. With that in mind, simplicity, legibility, and functionality are key. Keep it up!

Cheers, you've given me a lot of things to work with, but I need to ask for a screen and detailed browser information about the escaping text as everything is correctly aligned in all my browsers (IE6, IE7, FF2, Opera 9.2)

Hey, glad I could help.
Here's my Sadness page:
I added those red circles and lines pointing out some differences.
I also have a couple other images that show some of the things I was talking about, and how they were shown on my screen.
I am using Safari v2.0.4 and have a screen res of 1024 x 768 on a PowerMac G4.
I checked the main and sadness page on my Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers, and the results were the same. The IE browser was worse in some spots, but I havent updated that in a while and I never use it. I don't think most Mac users really use it either, so I wouldn't worry about it.
I wish I knew web coding and HTML so I could give you more specific advice on how to resolve any issues. Just got a book tho, so maybe I can soon.
But if you want me to test any pages and how they view on Mac browsers, lemme know via PM. Otherwise I'll check back here when I can.
in the OT threads the circle always becomes grey after about 10minutes of no one posting same thing with the general discussion thread, it bugs me. shouldnt it become grey after an hour or something?
Games page error:
When clicking on Advanced Search I get this error when trying to sort by last updated (no search text, and regardless of if it's ascending or descending).
