Nintendo UK slashing their workforce?
Posted by: Snakey  - Yesterday 07:03 PM - Replies (4)
Remember back in October when we interviewed Nintendo Software Engineer, Peter Watts? Well since then, things have taken a turn for the worst for Mr.Watts. Yesterday he supposedly received a phone call from Nintendo only to be told that his services had been rendered. According to Peter, he is now jobless because Nintendo are "slashing their workforce in favor of the more experienced employees (due to the) credit crunch".

Peter went on to say, "My contract had a clause in it, within the first six months I could lose my job due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’, and that is exactly what has happened. On the upside, I am getting a good reference and all the work I have done for them has been archived, and will be implemented on future projects they create."

Losing his job at the beginning of the new year isn't the start Peter would have wished for, and at this stage we're not sure just how many people have lost their jobs. Rest assured we've contacted Nintendo UK, and we're waiting for a official response.

NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams meant for 360/PS3?
Posted by: Alex51011  - Yesterday 10:33 AM - Replies (5)
All right, so maybe some of you don’t even remember that this game ever graced the Wii, but it did, and there’s a chance it wasn’t supposed to (this is just a rumor though). Last year, there was apparently a Sega of Europe employee kept a blog on which he revealed a little bit of info he shouldn’t have. The posts have been deleted since but copies where made and so we still know what was written on them.

Apparently according to the blog, NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams was supposed to be for the Xbox 360 and PS3 instead of the Wii. Apparently when Sega saw how well the Wii was doing, they told the production team to punt the game over to the Wii. Director Takashi Iizuka was mad as the game was so far along that you could already play it on the 360! These sudden change in plans considerably cut down production time which resulted in the sub par Wii game. Now there’s something to blame it’s poor development on.

Also, if this blog really is true then there was quite a big hint made about a certain Sonic Unleashed game. The blogger is quoted as saying:  "... before they release another Sonic game with a transforming Evil 'Night' Sonic who looks like a werewolf and can stretch his arms out Dhalsim-style. It will happen, mark my words." Hmm, I think he might have been right…Take it as it is, but this rumor would make sense, and could possibly be true.

Wanna know how fat you are? Japan does apparently.
Posted by: Alex51011  - Yesterday 09:55 AM - Replies (2)
It’s been one year since Wii Fit was first put on shelves in Japan. Well, that’s if they even had time to get them on shelves before they were bought up. Wii Fit’s have been selling like hot cakes in Japan and pretty much anywhere’s they are sold. Nintendo can’t keep up with the demand, but they’re certainly putting a lot of them out there.

Nintendo, in one year has sold in Japan (now this is just Japan) over 3 million Wii Fit. Over 3 million. That is a feat in itself for any game, let alone such a expense package. I guess Nintendo are probably as happy as pigs in the mud. This just adds to their bottomless pit of money.  How many of you guys have bought Wii Fits?

Lower your stress, play some Tetris!
Posted by: Alex51011  - Yesterday 09:19 AM - Replies (3)
I think at least almost everyone here must have played Tetris at some point or time in their life, and if not, where have you been all these years? Now some people like Tetris more then others, I for one don't really love it or hate it, just Tetris to me. But I know some people who absolutely love Tetris, and if you're one of those people, then this news might be something you'd be quite interested in!

A study in the UK was just recently undertaken where scientists would take volunteers and expose them to disturbing images. After showing them these disturbing images they allowed some of them to play Tetris, when playing the game they noted that stress-levels where significantly reduced and they received less flashbacks and reoccurrences of the images they previously viewed. While the people kept seeing the images and having flashbacks of them...why would you volunteer for this anyways?

Of course, the real question here is, was it really Tetris that lowered their stress levels or was it just the fact that they had a diversion to help them forget the images? Well, if that’s not the truth and Tetris really does help relieve stress then now you’ve got an excuse to play it! What do you guys think about this? Do you think it really does reduce stress?

Lets Flop in Japan
Posted by: Snakey  - 01-03-2009 09:14 AM - Replies (9)
Let's Tap, created by former Sonic developer Yuji Naka, had an interesting idea that you don't actually touch the Wii remote while playing the game. Instead you place the Wii remote on a flat surface, such as the box the game came in, and tap your hands to a collection of fun mini-games. Sadly, despite showing off a unique experience and an addictive soundtrack, the game only managed to shift 5,400 copies during its first week in Japan.

To be fair, the game didn't get a full week in retail, and sales might take a turn for the better once we see the figures for a full week's retail sales. Personally, I thought the game would of seen much more success if it was released through Wii Ware.

Experience Guitar Hero for less
Posted by: Snakey  - 01-02-2009 09:22 PM - Replies (2)
Some could argue that Activision are pumping out so many Guitar Hero games that the franchise is beginning to feel a little stale, but if you've never experienced Guitar Hero for yourself, I urge you to give it a try. Whether you're a casual gamer, or harder than hard-core, Guitar Hero has something to offer for everyone; which is why there has never been a better time to jump on the music game bandwagon.

Luckily for you, the good guys over at NWF compiled a relatively short list of decent Guitar Hero deals, which includes the Guitar Hero III Wireless Bundle ($47.99), Guitar Hero Aerosmith Special Edition Wireless Bundle ($47.99), and Guitar Hero World Tour ($34.99).

Zelda MIA, once in a decade!
Posted by: Foxy  - 12-31-2008 09:34 AM - Replies (6)
The legend of Zelda, a legendary series in its own right, its first appearance was 22 years ago when it graced us on the NES and to this day there are still Zelda games in development. It truly is a hit franchise that can withstand the test of time and Zelda fans never have to wait long for the next amazing experience (give or take one or two from the ol' Philips games which weren't so amazing). It appears that 2008 is going to end a zeldaless year for the first time in a decade. The team over at TGR have the titles listed out:

1998 - Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening DX
1999No releases
2000Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask
2001Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons
2002Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (GBA) and Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures
2003Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time/Master Quest
2004Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures
2005Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap
2006Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
2007Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and Link’s Crossbow Training

This is going to be our longest wait since the Ocarina to Majora gap and I have a feeling it's going to be worth it!

Wii 2009
Posted by: Foxy  - 12-30-2008 04:54 AM - Replies (21)
The Wii's line up for 2009 is beginning to shape up to a good year - though it still lacks any must buys that we've had in previous years. Metroid, Brawl and Mario are all missing in action but with the Mario and Zelda teams hard at work we might even see what they've been working on next year.

So which titles are expected in 2009 for the Wii? Tom Clancy’s HAWX, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, Guitar Hero V,  Rygar: Battle of Argus, Overlord: Dark Legend, Ghostbusters, The Conduit, Mad World and plenty more!

Also, any big predictions or hopes for 2009? I am going to say that a new Zelda will be shown at E3 and will be released in 2010. However, nothing new on Mario or Metroid yet or any other major franchise. Nintendo will continue to feed the core gamers the "the games are coming, be patient line" and keep bringing us back to the new Zelda. Wii sales will slow down but still sell significantly more than competitors. No price drop or new hardware this year either, other than motion plus. Your turn!

Wii TV?
Posted by: Foxy  - 12-29-2008 01:59 PM - Replies (12)

According to Nikkei, a daily business news paper in Japan, the Nintendo Wii will be getting its own video distribution service next year. The Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 platforms both already distribute movies and shows but Nintendo wants to take a different direction with their attempt at cracking the digital video market.

As I said, the 360 and PS3 both offer video content in the form of buying and renting shows and movies as well as offering trailers from all the oldest and latest games. Nintendo already have the Nintendo channel to show game trailers and videos, so now they're setting their sites on their own entertainment digital distribution service. With this video channel which will offer cartoons and mainly family orientated content created specially for the Wii video service.

Nintendo are teaming with a Japanese advertisement company called Detsu to accomplish this and it will be released in Japan spring time and world wide later.

Wii Lens cleaner
Posted by: Foxy  - 12-29-2008 01:44 PM - Replies (5)

Think back to when Brawl was originally released in Japan and there was a mass outcry as it didn't work on a lot of Wiis. We then soon found out that the disk was fine, it was the Wii owners that were causing the problem. Apparently because Brawl was on a dual layer disk it was more sensitive and the Wii's lens needed to be perfectly clean, but to have the lens cleaned to happily enjoy Brawl they had to ship their Wii off to Nintendo.

Nintendo told them to stop smoking and worked on a fix, and now that fix is available straight from Nintendo at the price of $9.99. Here is what Nintendo have to say about it:

Reduce risk of disc read errors and keep your Wii console running at peak performance with the Wii Lens Cleaning Kit. When used regularly, this kit will help keep your disc reader lens free of dust, dirt or other contaminate, which can cause disk read errors. (This kit will not affect errors caused by damage to the Wii console or game discs.)

This cleaning kit is for adult use only and contains chemicals, and should be stored out of the reach of small children when not in use.
Although not the greatest purchase you can make, if you do happen to get a disk read error I'd recommend this before shipping your Wii off to Nintendo.
