Hailed as one of the best and most influential series of all time, The Legend of Zelda reached new heights in 1998 when Nintendo launched The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo 64. Not only is this game considered the best of the Zelda series, it is widely considered the best game of all time. But series producer Eiji Aonuma is having mixed feeling about the series. Why? Speaking with Nintendo Power, Aonuma revealed that he wants to create a game that's better than Ocarina.
"I’m happy that a title I worked on some time ago remains highly praised to this day, but that also shows how none of the subsequent games in the series have surpassed it. As someone who is still working on the series, I have mixed feelings about that. Because I haven’t yet surpassed it, I can’t quit. Surprisingly, that simple motivation may be the reason I continue to work on the Zelda series."
It is of course easy to sympathize with Aonuma-san. He helped create a game that is still considered the best ten years after it was released. But would it be possible for him and his team to achieve the seemingly impossible? To create a game that is as good as, nay, surpasses Ocarina of Time?
